Anglers Quest Conroe Saturday 1st Series #5

Anglers Quest 2011 Lake Conroe Saturday 1st Series #5 out of El Dorado Jack’s in Montgomery, Tx began this event with 22 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $1485.00 purse. All teams that entered all 5 of the 1st series of Conroe Saturday Series events are automatically qualified for the 2-day Lake Conroe Championship. The top team in points, Julian Clepper II & Julian Clepper III were declared the Team Anglers of the Year. The teams entering all 8 Conroe Saturday 1st & 2nd series events will automatically qualify for all 4 of the Lake Series 2-day Championships. The highest Top 10 points group of teams from the 2nd series of 3 events will also qualify to go to the 2-day Conroe Championship. Any team qualifying for any A/Q Championship will be allowed to enter the "Tournament of Champions" on November 19-20 at Lake Palestine.
This last event of the 1st series at Lake Conroe for 2011 was started after the playing of the National Anthem at 6:10 am. Lake Conroe water was in good shape and about 2 feet below normal pool level with water temps ranning 72-74 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a calm 66 degrees with a warming to 89 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was good on Lake Conroe today as there were 4 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 39 bass at 138.66 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 3.55 lb. The 2010 Individual AOY of Garrett Pierce from Conroe & his team partner Skip Regan, Jr from Willis, Tx ran Garrett’s ProCraft/Mercury bass rig to areas on the north & south end to finish in 1st place. They were using their rods & Shimano reels spooled with Fluorocarbon line to throw shallow ranning crank baits in 4-6 ft water around brush. The team brought 5 nice bass in that tipped the scales at 25.86 lbs. One of their bass was the Big Bass of the event at 7.61 lbs. Their 5 bass paid them $930.00 for their day on the water. The 2010 AOY team of Julian Clepper II & Julian Clepper III from Magnolia, Tx ran their BassCat/Mercury bass rig to areas north of the 1097 bridge to catch their bass throwing medium diving cranks in 3-10 ft of water using their Castaway rods & Shimano reels. The father & son team brought 5 bass in that tipped the scales at 21.84 lbs. This 2nd place made them $500.00 for their day on the water and also sewed up the 2011 title of Saturday Conroe Team Anglers of the Year for the 2nd year in a row. The team of Mike Needham & Richard Pennington finished in 3rd with a fine bag of 4 bass at 20.65 lbs.
